Ken Walden

Ken will be seeing clients at GETME from May 2021 to May 2022.

I am a graduate student at the University of Southern Maine, working towards being a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I have turned to counseling as a second career, after several decades of running my own business and raising a family. I believe that counseling provides a space unlike any other, a space that is just for you. You can talk about the things that truly matter to you with someone who will hear you, who will not judge you, and who is invested in wanting you to feel better. Just voicing things that you may have never said before can begin to create change in your life. But together, we will work to do more than that, taking time to come to new understandings, create new skills, and imagine new possibilities for you.

I work with people who are struggling with change, relationships, identity, grief, anxiety, or depression. To begin our counseling work together, I will get to know you so that we can talk about your life and your struggles with the same language. You are the expert on your life. My role lies in the fact that while each of us are different, we are often similar in many ways. Things that have worked to help others may also help you. Together we will use our collective understandings to create a plan that we are confident can help you to heal and grow. I will work with the whole context of your self–your thoughts, your feelings, and your connections with others. Among other approaches, I have trained in Emotion-Focused Therapy, an approach that considers experiencing and transforming our emotions as one of the most powerful tools for change.

I also work with couples who are looking to improve their relationship. I am have pursued a Family Systems specialization in my training because I believe that one of the hardest things we do as human beings is to create close relationships with each other. All of us could use assistance in the skills and courage necessary to make our relationships work and work better. Together, we will unpack your issues in a careful, productive way and build an increasingly shared understanding of each of you and your relationship.

I truly believe counseling can be of benefit to anyone. While you may come to counseling in the midst of pain and confusion, there is always the possibility of growth. I am excited about the possibility of being a part of your growth and your healing.
