“Empathy for Dudes” is a 6-week Action Group designed to help men develop better relationship skills, and expand their understanding of their own and others’ emotions. Increased emotional intelligence will help you in business, romance, friendship, parenting, and being a good member of your community.
Note the title means both “Empathy, for dudes” and “Empathy for dudes” The group aims to help men to become more empathic, but it’s also about ensuring that men receive understanding. Not only because everyone deserves it, but because you need to experience what it feels like to receive empathy in order to fully understand what it’s all about.
The title of the group is supposed to be a little humorous. Stereotypes of men include that they don’t have feelings, or think there are only two feelings (calm/angry), or are just so logic-brained that they can’t hope to understand.
In fact, men have a great capacity for feeling and understanding. And empathy in some some sense is a skill that can be learned and practiced like any other.
Empathy begins on the inside, and only after an internal process has taken place does it eventuate in actions and words. Some of us have never deliberately noticed or practiced this process.
(It’s worth pointing out that many women haven’t mastered this, either. If you are a woman wanting to better understand yourself in relationships, please consider the Action Group. Empathy for Dudes is for men only.)
If you’d like to be better at understanding — and communicating your understanding — come join our group!
